Video games are fun. They provide all sorts of immersive and entertaining experiences. Retards like Hillary Clinton and Jack Thompson think that video games somehow influence people to do things they otherwise wouldn't do. But really, they're just ignorant for supporting government regulation of the video game industry over promoting parental responsibility.

I guess this is in the Anime-related terms category because some anime series have typically shitty games.

Do we even really need this page? There isn't anyone left on the internet that doesn't know what a video game is.

Ratings systems

Various countries have their own ratings systems for video games. Usually it's just a stamp somewhere on the cover with the age rating (i.e. CERO ratings in Japan). In the US, we have the ESRB's funky system.

  • E - Everyone. Content suitable for gamers of all ages. Used to be K-A (Kids to Adults). Similar to the MPAA movie rating G, however, unlike movies released with a G rating, there are actually decent games with an E rating.
  • E10+ - Everyone 10 and up. It's a stupid rating they added just recently, that covers an entire three years of human life.
  • T - Teen. Everything's about in line with a PG-13 movie.
  • M - My kids ought to be able to play thisMature. Some parents don't quite get this one. Akin to an R rating.
  • AO - Adults Only. Most stores won't stock AO-rated games. Pretty much reserved for porn.

In addition, the ESRB has ratings descriptors that further describe the content of the game, from things like Cartoon Violence and Mild Lyrics up to Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, and Use of Drugs. The last five of those all came from the back of the Hot Coffee-enabled PS2 release of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Alongside the M rating and its age guideline of 17+, one begins to wonder why exactly parents were buying GTA for their 12 year old kids anyway.

Things people like to do with video games

  • Speed Run
This is as it sounds, the player simply tries to get through the game as fast as possible. Some speed runners utilize glitches to their advantage, others wuss out. Furthermore, some speed runs also aim for fastest completion with 100% of in-game achievements complete, versus simply getting through the game as quickly as possible.
  • Tool-Assisted Speed Run
While not considered kosher by some, those people are gay. Tool-assisted runs use emulators' save state and slowdown features to push the game to its limits, removing the element of human reflexes from the mix entirely.
  • Combo Video
The sole production of the fighting game enthusiast, showing off the various combos they've learned. Many combo videos use glitches present within the game. Many fighting games have timings for various things that go down to the single frame of animation, usually 1/60th of a second, so a well-executed combo video demonstrates a high level of expertise in the game. Some people also like to just whore the combometer, trying to get that number up as high as possible, not really caring about damage or feasibility.
  • Hack
When someone technologically inclined breaks open the game's data format, hacks get made. Then we get to see fun things like this.
