Future-Retro Hero Story

Future-Retro Hero Story, Space Hero Story, or Uchuu Eiyuu Monogatari (宇宙 英雄 物語) is a manga series taking place before the Toward Stars Era (Outlaw Star and Angel Links). It is the earliest work within the series universe by Itoh. There were plans at some point to have the series animated, but it never came to be.
Instead there were many Drama CDs produced, where some of the actors returned to work on Outlaw Star or on other animated works by Morning Star Studios.
Compared to Outlaw Star or Angel Links, FRHS is more comical than the other two only getting serious by the series' end. FRHS was also a spoof and homage to early Sci-fi, with many a reference to Lensmen, Captain Future, and Star Wars.
So, Future-Retro in the title refers to Retro-futurism, which was coined by Lloyd Dunn in 1983.
